Place-names in the Hikayat Pasai
This brief note by R. O. Winstedt corrects misspellings of place-names in Mr. Mead’s romanization of the Hikayat Raja-Raja Pasai published in Journal No. 66.
Summary
Winstedt provides emended readings for place-names on pp. 50 and 54–55 of Mead’s version, including corrections such as Nëgëri Tambëlan, Nëgëri Siantan, Nëgëri Subi, Nëgëri Pëmanggil, Nëgëri Karimata, Nëgëri Bëlitong, Nëgëri Bentan, Nëgëri Bulang, Nëgëri Mampawa, Nëgëri Sukadana, Nëgëri Kota Waringin, and Nëgëri Kutai (p. 181). He also notes two errors in the original manuscript itself: Nëgëri Pëmanggilan Karimata and Nëgëri Karantoka (for Larantoka). Winstedt is unable to identify Berumak (perhaps Beromok) and observes that most of the Sumatran place-names on p. 54 do not appear on modern maps, likely having been very small places that have since disappeared (p. 181).
