Two new species of Cicindela (Tiger beetles) from Borneo

This short note by Dr. Walter Horn describes two new species of Cicindela (tiger beetles) from Borneo, published in the Journal of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, Vol. 50 (1908).

Summary

Horn describes Cicindela hewittii n. sp., a 6½ mm male from Kuching, Borneo (collected VI. 1903 by J. E. A. Lewis), distinguished from C. phalangioidea by its broader, larger build, the pubescence on the clypeus, frons, and lateral pronotal margin, and its coppery-brown body with blue-green tibiae and tarsi (p. 99). The species is dedicated to the director of the Museum of Sarawak, who provided the single type specimen (p. 100).

The second species, Cicindela spinicollis n. sp., is an 8⅓ mm female from North Borneo, compared closely with C. denticollis and differentiated by its flatter, narrower middle pronotum, a laterally directed basal tooth, a less developed antebasal fold, and reduced yellow elytral markings (pp. 100–101). Horn also notes a doubt about the original locality (New Guinea) given for C. denticollis, as he has never seen specimens beyond the two types, and leaves the question in suspense (p. 102).
