Trengganu royal family
A brief note by H. P. Bryson providing local Malay epithets for several sultans of Trengganu, prompted by a reference in Dr. Winstedt’s earlier article (p. 253).
Summary
Bryson identifies the speech impediment of one son of Sultan Mansur, explaining that the local name “Yam-Tuan Telor” corresponds to the word pelet used in the Tuhfat at-Nafis. He then lists local names for subsequent rulers: Sultan Zainal-Abidin (asc. 1793, d. 1808) as Marhum Masjid or Marhum Mata Merah; his son Sultan Ahmad as Marhum Parit; ‘Abdu’r-Rahman Shah as Marhum Surau; Sultan Daud (r. three weeks, 1831) as Marhum Kampong Daik; and Sultan Zainal-Abidin (1881–1918) as Marhum Haji (p. 253).
