The forms of Criniger gularis and C. gutturalis. Records of the Raffles Museum, No. 6

This short note by C. Boden-Kloss (1924) presents a tentative taxonomic arrangement of the white-throated bulbuls of the genus Criniger in Malaysia and Indo-China, dividing them into two species: C. gularis and C. gutturalis (p. 71).

Summary

Boden-Kloss lists eleven subspecies under C. gularis (Horsf.), ranging from West Java through mainland Southeast Asia to the Malay Peninsula and the Philippines, and four subspecies under C. gutturalis (Bp.), covering the Malay Peninsula, Siam, Indochina, and Borneo (p. 71). He notes that only in the Malay Peninsula and Indo-China are both species known to co-occur, and that he has not personally examined specimens of pallida, grandis, griseiceps, or frater (p. 71). The note is published as Records of the Raffles Museum, No. 6.
