This is a tabular record of monthly meteorological observations for Singapore in 1879, compiled by T. Irvine Rowell, M.D., Principal Civil Medical Officer, S.S. (p. 63).

Summary

The document presents monthly means for barometric pressure (corrected to 32° F), hygrometer readings (dry and wet bulb at 9 A.M., 3 P.M., and 9 P.M.), and diurnal range, covering January through November 1879; the December column is left blank (p. 63). A continuation table on the following page gives monthly values for maximum temperature in sun’s rays (in vacuo and exposed), minimum on grass, maximum and minimum in shade, diurnal range, approximate temperature, highest and lowest temperatures, and prevailing wind direction (p. 64). Wind direction shifted from N.E. in the first four months to S.E. and S.W. from May through October, returning to N.E. in November (p. 64).
