A short history of Trengganu

“A Pulau Tiuman Superstition” is a brief note by W. C. published in the JMBRAS in 1900, reporting on the identification of a fungal specimen known to the Malays as Susu Rimau.

Summary

The author follows up on a previous account (Journal No. 22, p. 340) of Susu Rimau, a vegetable product used by the Malays, which is the sclerotium or resting stage of a Polyporus species. Having obtained additional specimens of the tuber and the fully developed fungus in Singapore and Penang, the author notes that Mr. Massee of Kew identified it as Polyporus sacer, a widely distributed fungus (p. 101).
