A new squirrel from North Sarawak
This is a brief taxonomic note by C. Boden Kloss describing a new species of squirrel, Sciurus adamsi, from North Sarawak, based on two specimens collected by Major J. C. Moulton (p. 151).
Summary
Kloss distinguishes the new species from the superficially similar Sciurus vittatus dulitensis on the basis of smaller size, brighter colouration, and the presence of large buff postauricular patches, and from Glyphotes simus (Thomas, 1898) on cranial and dental characters and the distinctness of those patches (p. 151). The type is an adult female from Long Mujan, about 150 miles up the Baram River at 700–900 ft., with a head-and-body length of 176 mm (p. 152). The species is named in honour of C. D. Adams, District Officer, Baram (p. 152).
