A new ground-gecko (Gymnodactylus) from the Malay Peninsula. Records of the Raffles Museum, No. 7

This is a one-page taxonomic note by Malcolm A. Smith describing a new species of ground-gecko, Gymnodactylus sworderi, collected in Johore, Malay Peninsula, and published as Record No. 7 of the Raffles Museum (p. 87).

Summary

Smith describes a single male specimen collected by Hope Sworder approximately nine miles north of Kota Tinggi, Johore, in September 1924. The species is characterized by an oval oblique ear opening, a large quadrangular rostral, 14 upper and 10 lower labials, a large subtriangular mental with a pair of chin-shields, granular dorsal scales with larger rounded tubercles, two diverging rows of three preanal pores, and 10–11 pitted femoral scales. The animal is dark brown above with small irregular white spots in two series along the sides of the head, and yellowish-white below; total length is 135 mm (p. 87).

Smith notes the species is most closely related to G. peguensis Boulenger from lower Burma and Siam, differing in preanal pore arrangement, supralabial count, and coloration. The type specimen was to be deposited in the British Museum of Natural History (p. 87).
