A list of reptiles from Pulau Galang and other islands of the Rhio Archipelago. F.N. Chasen and N. Smedley. Records of the Raffles Museum, No. 30
This is a faunal list of reptiles from Pulau Galang and neighbouring islands of the Rhio Archipelago, compiled by F. N. Chasen and N. Smedley from material in the Raffles Museum, with additional records contributed by C. B. Kloss (p. 352).
Summary
The note catalogues reptile species recorded from Pulau Galang, P. Bulan, P. Battam, P. Bintang, and P. Samboe, organised by taxonomic group: Lacertilia (Geckonidae, Agamidae, Varanidae, Scincidae), Chelonia (Testudinidae, Chelonidae), Emysauria (Crocodilidae), and Ophidia (Boidae, Colubridae, Viperidae) (pp. 352–354). Several observations of taxonomic or zoological interest are appended to the species entries, including a well-constituted red-ventral colour variety of Gecko verticillatus found abundantly on P. Galang where no typical specimens occur (p. 352), a Calotes cristatellus bearing a short secondary tail (p. 352), and two specimens of Dipsadomorphus cynodon found to have swallowed birds (Treron curvirostris and Hemiprocne longipennis), supporting earlier reports of this species’ predation on birds (p. 354). The authors note that more systematic collecting would likely reveal additional forms not listed here (p. 352).
